Of course, you can find all products in your BAUHAUS centre.

Design your own wall area

Step
1

PROBAU Stone Carpet is ideal for surfaces such as concrete, plaster mortar, mortar, plaster, porous concrete, screed, tiles etc. Uneven subsurfaces must be levelled in advance.

Step
2

Define and mark the positioning of the end profile (8 mm thickness) with a metre rule and spirit level.   Then fix.

Step
3

Perform this working step for the desired wall surface. The required end profiles should be fixed straight away in the planning of floor surfaces, also including the upstands.

Step
4

In order to achieve a viable and solidified surface for the subsequent layer of PROBAU Stone Carpet , put about 0.5 kg of PROBAU Wall Binder with a trowel into a clean bucket to use as a primer.   0.5 kg of PROBAU Wall Binder is sufficient for approx. 1.75 m². Clean tools immediately with water.

Step
5

Open the pail of the desired PROBAU Stone Carpet and slowly let PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls run into the pebbles. For one pail of PROBAU Stone Carpet (20 kg) add one bottle of PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls (100 ml) completely into the pail.

Step
6

Use a slow moving mixer to intensively mix the PROBAU Stone Carpet with the PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls. Only mix as much PROBAU Stone Carpet as is actually needed. 20 kg of PROBAU Stone Carpet and 100 ml of PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls are enough for about 1.75 m².

Step
7

Subsequently, add the remaining amount of PROBAU Wall Binder (approx. 2.5 kg) to the 20 kg of pebbles mixed with PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls

Step
8

Again, intensively mix with a slow-speed mixer until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Ensure that PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls has been previously added to the pebbles and mixed thoroughly.

Step
9

Apply the weighed PROBAU Wall Binder as a primer in order to achieve a viable and solidified surface for a subsequent layer of PROBAU Stone Carpet .  Apply a thin layer with a brush or a roller to the vertical surfaces. Use only as much primer as can be processed before the onset of skin formation.

Step
10

Then apply an 8-mm-thick layer of pebbles onto the wet primer, using a trowel. Apply from the ground up. Press the pebbles evenly. Compress the coated surface by applying uniform pressure to the trowel.

Step
11

It is applied from the ground up until the selected area is fully fitted and compacted with the mixture of PROBAU Stone Carpet, PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls and PROBAU Wall Binder .

Step
12

Depending on the temperature and humidity of the wall covering, it should be fixed and dry after 2 to 3 days. Protect from moisture until it has completely hardened. The decorative wall design is complete.

Upstands on the wall area

Step
13

For the upstands, select the same PROBAU Stone Carpet that is to be used for the floor area, to ensure a visually attractive result.  The processing is carried out in a similar way to the wall area. First allow the PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls to flow into the PROBAU Stone Carpet .  Only mix as much as is actually needed.

Step
14

Use a slow moving mixer to intensively mix the PROBAU Stone Carpet with the PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls. Then add the PROBAU Wall Binder and mix homogeneously.  About 2.5 kg of PROBAU Wall Binder is needed for 20 kg of PROBAU Stone Carpet . Sufficient for approx. 1.75 m².

Step
15

Before applying the mixture, prime the upstands with the previously weighed PROBAU Wall Binder (analogous to steps 4 and 9 of the wall area).

Step
16

The upstands are dry and firm after a drying time of 2 to 3 days. After complete drying, start the processing of the floor area.

Design your own floor area

Step
17

The subsurface may need to be pretreated. In order to create a viable and solid subsurface, pour PROBAU Stone Carpet Floor Primer into a large bucket. Only pour as much primer into the bucket as is actually needed. 0.75 ltr of PROBAU Stone Carpet Floor Primer is sufficient for about 3 m².

Step
18

Apply PROBAU Stone Carpet Floor Primer undiluted by brushing, rolling or spraying a thin layer onto the subsurface.
Apply the following layer after the primer is completely dry.

Step
19

Then pour 1 kg of PROBAU Floor Binder completely into the 20 kg pail of PROBAU Stone Carpet
and mix intensively and homogeneously with a slow running mixer.

Step
20

Only mix as much as is actually needed for the selected floor area. 20 kg of PROBAU Stone Carpet and 1 kg of PROBAU Floor Binder are sufficient for about 1.75 m². After mixing, the mixture must be applied within the next 75 minutes.

Step
21

Divide the mixture of PROBAU Stone Carpet and PROBAU Floor Binder roughly into portions on the floor surface with a spreading knife.

Step
22

Press the coated mixture with the trowel, using even pressure to achieve optimum compaction. After compaction, the thickness of the applied layer should not be less than 8 mm.

Step
23

Keep working the fresh area into the last one, wet in wet, so that no visible transitions can occur. It is therefore essential to create the floor area in a single operation.

Step
24

The finished stone surface can be carefully walked on after about 8 hours, and is fully cured and can be fully loaded after about 2 days.   Clean tools immediately after use, using commercial thinners.

Step
25

Protect the freshly worked floor section from moisture until it has completely hardened.  Then the designed wall and floor areas are finished and can be individually decorated.

Design your own stairs

Step
26

Use end profiles to achieve the best results for the stairs. Mark and then fix in place using a drill.

Step
27

Always start with the vertical surfaces when working on stairs. The process is carried out in a similar way to the wall area. First prime the vertical stair surfaces with PROBAU Wall Binder (see points 4 and 9 of the wall area description).

Step
28

Subsequently, apply the mixture of PROBAU Stone Carpet, PROBAU Stone Carpet Bond for Walls and PROBAU Wall Binder with a trowel to the vertical surfaces and compress (see points 5 to 11 of the wall instructions).

Step
29

Treat the horizontal surfaces with PROBAU Stone Carpet Floor Primer only after complete drying of the vertical surfaces. The processing of the horizontal stair surfaces is analogous to the floor surfaces.

Step
30

After complete drying of the PROBAU Stone Carpet Floor Primer , the mixture of PROBAU Stone Carpet and PROBAU Floor Binder can be applied in portions and compressed.  Mixing is carried out analogously to the floor area (points 3 and 4).

Step
31

After 2 days, the horizontal surfaces are completely cured. The staircase can now be fully loaded and is ready for use.

Seal (additional pretreatment)

Step
32

Especially outside, a sealing mortar must be used between the substrate and the subsequent layer of PROBAU Stone Carpet . Pour about 1.8 litres of clean water and 6 kg of PROBAU Special Sealant for Walls + Floors into a clean bucket.

Step
33

Mix with a slow running mixer until it has become a lump-free, pasty mortar.
Only mix as much as is actually needed. 6 kg of PROBAU Special Sealant is sufficient for about 1.75 m².

Step
34

After mixing, the material must be used within approximately 1 hour. The coat is applied in two layers. The first layer is applied with a brush or trowel.  Allow to dry for about 8 hours before the second layer is applied.

Step
35

The application of the second layer is analogous to the first layer. The total layer thickness must be at least 2 mm.   Allow the sealant to dry thoroughly for approximately 2 to 3 days before applying the PROBAU Stone Carpet . Protect from moisture until it has completely hardened.

Scratch coat (additional pretreatment)

Step
36

When applying PROBAU Stone Carpet on non-absorbent substrates (e.g. old tiles, smooth-boarded concrete), these must be provided with an adhesive bridge.   Pour water into a clean bucket and add PROBAU Special Sealant for Walls + Floors until it turns into to a lump-free, pasty mortar.

Step
37

Apply PROBAU Special Sealant for Walls + Floors in portions with a trowel to the non-absorbent surface. Suitable for walls and floors, indoors and outdoors.

Step
38

To establish a contact layer between the non-absorbent substrate and the subsequent PROBAU Stone Carpet layer, scrape a thin layer of PROBAU Special Sealant across the surface with the trowel (scratch coat).

Step
39

The scratch coat must be completely dry before the subsequent layer of PROBAU Stone Carpet can be applied. Protect from moisture until it has completely hardened.

Good to know: Protect the material from moisture until it has completely dried out.  Not suitable for processing in continuously wet areas (e.g. showers).  To mix the required amount of PROBAU Stone Carpet, the material can also be poured into a larger bucket.

Good to know: Protect the material from moisture until it has completely dried out.  Not suitable for processing in continuously wet areas (e.g. showers). For the design of outdoor walls and floors, it is vital to read the paragraph "Additional pre-treatment "!

Good to know: PROBAU Special Sealant is used for sealing all structures against surface water, leachates and pressurised water, as well as forming an intermediate seal.   Especially for use outdoors and in damp and wet rooms. You can then treat the walls, floors, or stairways as described in previous sections.
